OLD WINNEMUCCA - Chief - Shoshoni and Paiute Indians

Old Winnemucca was also known as Captain Truckee, Wuna Mucca, One Moccasin and Onennamucca.

Old Winnemucca was born a Shoshoni Native American.  Later, he became a Paiute Indian when he married a Paiute woman of the Kuyuidika tribe.

He intercepted the Lewis and Clark's Corps of Discovery and offered his services to lead them through a safe trail. 

Mexican- American War

He supported John C. Fremont in the Mexican-American War and recived a letter commending him for his support in that war.
